Apple is upgrading the type and volume of RAM of iPhone 15 phones

As mentioned, the amount of RAM of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max phones that are going to be introduced later this year It increases from 6 GB to 8 GB. In addition, the type and technology of RAMs used in these phones will also be improved compared to the existing iPhone 14 models.

Increase the amount of RAM iPhone 15 to 8 GB

Recently, a report by TrendForce has been published, in parts of which, Apple’s plans regarding the memory of iPhone 15 phones have been discussed. According to this report, Apple will increase the amount of RAM in the iPhone 15 from 6 GB to 8 GB, although it is not yet clear whether this increase is specific to the “Pro” models or not. Currently, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max phones are equipped with LPDDR5 RAMs, and this is the first time that Apple uses these memories, but the memory of the regular iPhone 14 and Plus phones is still LPDDR4X. Of course, all four phones still have 6 GB of RAM.

For this year, Apple may go one step further from LPDDR5 memories and switch to LPDDR5X memories, but this may also be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max phones. Usually, the Apple company turns to new technologies with a delay, and even in the new generation MacBook (MacBook Pro 2023) there is no mention of LPDDR5X memories. In fact, our main expectation is that Apple will start using the latest memory in 2024, which means that iPhone 16 phones will be the first phones to be equipped with these memories.

The use of LPDDR5X RAM is unlikely

Most likely, the report of TrendForce wanted to announce the increase in the amount of RAM of the iPhone 15 to 8 GB rather than the improvement of memory technology; But let’s not forget that these are just preliminary news and information and their certainty is very unlikely. Apple may be switching to the latest type of memory to better compete with Samsung, but the fact that the company only started using LPDDR5 memory a year ago makes it unlikely that it will switch to LPDDR5X memory after only a year.
