Cybercriminals have used a new type of phishing to steal about $ 500,000 worth of cryptocurrencies from digital wallets that do not require email and use Google Ads, Google’s advertising platform.

According to the report publishedScammers used this method to buy Google Ads ads for their fake websites, which used counterfeit samples of popular wallets such as Phantom App and MetaMask. Also, the URLs of these malicious websites are very similar to the original example, with phantonn.app being used as the phantom.app URL, for example.

In this case, scammers can get their information if users visit fake websites. Also, if users intend to use this fake website to manage a new wallet, any money transferred to them will be credited to the hackers’ account, because they have actually entered the hacker’s main account.

As Phantom App and MetaMask explain in their report, Check Point Research is one of the most popular digital wallets for Solana and Atrium currencies. According to Reddit users, about half a million dollars were stolen last weekend alone and 11 wallet accounts were found to contain cryptocurrencies worth between $ 1,000 and $ 10,000.

The scammers withdrew funds from those wallets before CPR could access them.

According to Check Point Research, fraud groups are now focused on Google Ads keywords, and this could indicate how effective this method is. Users are now advised to carefully check their wallet URLs and refrain from entering or using Google Ads results altogether to avoid such potential problems.
