HMD Global is kicking off 2023 with a budget Android 12 Go Edition phone, the Nokia C12. A cheap and economical phone But with the Android operating system that can meet normal daily needs. In the following, we will introduce and review the specifications of the Nokia C12 phone.
- Nokia G60 5G phone was introduced
Smaller and lighter than before
Based on the model number, it’s the successor to the Nokia C10 from early 2021, though it’s actually smaller than most of the C-series phones. This is due to the 6.3-inch LCD screen with HD+ resolution. Its dimensions are C12 160.6 x 74.3 x 8.75 mm and it comes with a weight of 177.4 grams. For comparison, the C10 measures 169.9 x 77.9 x 8.8 mm, weighs 191 grams, and has a 6.52-inch screen. In fact, we are dealing with a newer Nokia C31 model, but with a larger 6.75-inch display.
Anyway, the Nokia C12 gets its power from the Unisoc SC9863A1 chip, a chipset built on an old 28nm node, which could be good for a budget smartphone. The chip has eight Cortex-A55 cores (4x 1.6GHz + 4x 1.2GHz) and a PowerVR IMG 8322 GPU.
Nokia C12 is exactly in the middle of the table in its category
Although this phone comes with 2GB of RAM, it has an option to activate another 2GB of virtual RAM. If you are looking for a more economical option, you can look for the Go version, because that model runs with only 1 GB of RAM, although if you think that this amount of RAM is too low even for a budget phone, some models go up to 4 GB. are equipped, so the C12 falls squarely in the middle. The device is equipped with 64GB of storage (eMMC 5.1), however, as far as we can tell, there’s no microSD upgrade available, which isn’t good at all.
In terms of camera specifications, the Nokia C12 has two cameras – an 8-megapixel module at the back (with autofocus and LED flash) and a 5-megapixel selfie camera at the front (in the notch). These cameras have night and portrait modes. Well, of course, you shouldn’t expect to hear special and strange features, but it will certainly get you started.
There is no USB Type-c, but instead we have the 3.5 jack
Nokia C12 is a 4G phone, other wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 5.2. You can also connect wired headphones to the 3.5mm jack, which is good news. But on the other hand, there is a disappointing feature, and that is the presence of a microUSB connector for data transfer and charging, which does not seem very logical. Anyway, this phone has a 3000 mAh battery that can be enough for a full day of general use and is charged with 5 watts.
While this phone may be cheap, the Nokia C12 is specifically built to last (what comes to mind when we hear the name Nokia). The phone has a polycarbonate body with a sticky texture, but the phone is also protected against drops and has tough glass on the front. and has the IP52 standard (protection against dust and water drops). HMD has committed to quarterly security updates for 2 years (no mention of OS updates, but that’s typical of the Go Edition models).
The Nokia C12 is priced at €120 ($130/£105/Rs 10,500) in one configuration (64GB/2GB). At first, it will be available only in Germany and Austria, and soon it will enter other markets as well.
