The Governor of the Central Bank stated that the owners of POS machines must complete their tax files, and announced that if they do not complete their tax files, their card readers will definitely be cut off with the warning given to them.
“Ali Salehabadi” also said: “So far, about 70% of the card readers have been assigned in terms of value, and I predict that we will not have a card reading without assignment by the end of the year. “Of course, the law on the store terminal system also requires us and the tax administration, which must be organized, which is very important for transparency in the economy.”
Iran POS, the second world after China!
A study of the statistics of the number of POS in Iran in comparison with some selected countries in the world shows significant results. According to statistics, Iran is second only to China with more than 9.8 million card readers and the United States is third with 6 million devices.
According to the official statistics of the People’s Bank of China, from 2013 to 2018, the number of POS terminals in China increased by an average of more than 2.8 million units per year, from about 10.63 million in 2013 to 34.148 thousand units per year. In 2018, it reached 30 million 892 thousand units by the end of 2019, 33 million 312 thousand units by the end of 2020 and 38 million 330 thousand units by the end of 2021.
At present, according to the statistics provided, the number of POS machines per 10,000 adult Chinese (over 18 years old) is 355 (China’s population over 18 years old is one billion and 79 thousand people), which is compared to about 1591 machines in Iran (overpopulation). 17 years Iran is 61 million and 2222 thousand people), Iranians have 4.5 times more POS devices than Chinese.
Exact statistics of the card reader are not available
Although the Central Bank of Iran and the Tax Affairs Organization have not yet released exact statistics on the number of card readers who have been assigned, the Governor of the Central Bank has said in recent days regarding the card readers that the Central Bank is fully coordinated with the Tax Affairs Organization. Must have a tax file and tax identification code.
Statistics show that the per capita number of card readers in Iran is four times the global average and Iran is second in the world in terms of the number of POS after China. It seems that the policymaker has made an extreme distribution of POS devices in the country without a specific plan and approach, which instead of transparency, can lead to tax evasion and the non-transparency of Iran’s economy. The use of several POS devices in each union unit is something that most citizens have observed and observed in the union units.
POS machines are able to automatically connect to a variety of hardware and store software. The output of POS information can be cited for the seller, the store owner and even the subsidiaries and the government (tax administration). From this point of view, the uniformity of the information of the mechanized cash registers equipped with card readers creates the best kind of financial transparency.
Up to 36 million tomans of tax-free profit
According to Mohammad Barzegar, head of the Regulatory Center of the Tax Affairs Organization, the registration of card readers started on January 6, and cardholders have a two-week opportunity to register their devices.
“The deadline for assigning card readers is the end of January this year, after which bank card readers or electronic payment gateways that do not correspond to the tax file will be deactivated,” he said. “According to Barzegar, in the first week, about 758,000 card readers were registered in the system, of which 403,000 were registered with a request to connect to the file, and 350,000 were requesting deactivation, and operations related to these devices are underway.”
“Citizens in the tax system can also be informed about having or not having a card reader, so that the central bank can cut off these terminals if they do not register the card reader themselves,” Barzegar said.
