Nvidia is preparing for mass production of RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti graphics cards

It seems that Nvidia is preparing to start mass production of two new graphics cards based on Ada Lovelace’s AD104 silicon – most likely the GeForce RTX 4070 and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics cards.

Getting the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti ready for production

According to the information that Acquired by Wccftech, Nvidia plans to start mass production of two new RTX 40 Ada Lovelace series desktop graphics cards soon, which will most likely be called RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070. These models are based on AD104 silicon, which the new GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics card is based on. Of course, this graphics card uses the full version of this processor, and the graphics cards we are discussing will be based on weakened versions of this processor, and their power reduction will be significant compared to the full version.

New AD104-250 and AD104-251 chipsets

Okay, let’s move on to these two chipsets – the AD104-250 and AD104-251 chipsets. The chipset that was used for the RTX 4070 Ti graphics card was the full version of the AD104 chipset, which is known by the code AD104-400-A1, and from here, we can guess how much these two new chipsets are going to reduce the power compared to the full version. Interestingly, these two chipsets are named with almost identical codes (250 and 251) and we still don’t know if their specifications are supposed to be that close.

Regarding the PCBs, the AD104-250 chipset is going to be mounted on the PG141 343 board and the AD104-251 chipset is going to be mounted on the PG141 345 board. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics card was based on the PG141 331 board, and Nvidia and its board partners did not need to spend a lot of time and energy optimizing this board for new chipsets. In addition, both of the new graphics cards we discussed will have a power consumption of around 200 watts, but this number is an approximation and will definitely change at the last moment.

Access time, second half of 2023…?

Regarding Nvidia’s production schedule, we must say that the AD104-250 processor will enter mass production earlier than the other chipsets, and its mass production will start from the second half of February, while the AD104-251 chipset will most likely start from the second half of March. The production line goes. So far, no information has been released about the release date of these two models, but according to the production schedule, the release of these graphics cards will probably start in the second half of 2023, which is the time of the Computex 2023 exhibition.

Previously, similar specifications were announced for the GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card: 5,888 CUDA cores and 12 GB of 21 Gbps G6X memory along with 36 MB cache and 250 W power consumption. Regarding the RTX 4060 Ti graphics card, it was also said that this card will be equipped with the AD106 chipset, but now we know that this is most likely not the case.

Information previously published is not necessarily incorrect and may simply have changed. A lot of time has passed since the last time we heard about these two cards and many important events have happened, the most important of which is the name change of the RTX 4080 12GB graphics card to the RTX 4070 Ti. This last minute decision by Nvidia will most likely change the naming and pricing system of all RTX 40 Ada Lovelace family graphics cards.
