Nvidia's 88% GPU market share and overall sales decline in Q3 2022

Jon Peddie Research (JPR) recently released a complete report on the market and GPU sales statistics published in the third quarter of 2022, which shows the share of Intel, AMD and Nvidia in this market. The recent report has been released specifically focusing on the numbers of this market in the third quarter of this year.

During the third quarter of 2022, the total sales of PC graphics processors decreased by nearly 25.1% compared to the previous year, and among these, the share of desktop products also saw a decrease of 15.43%. The sale of graphics processors for notebooks has also been associated with a 30% decrease. This GPU sales figure in the quarter of 2022 is very bad and has been dubbed as the biggest drop in sales since 2009.

The share of AMD and Intel is 8 and 4 percent, respectively

Coming to the sales statistics of dedicated graphics cards, the report tells us that the sales of this series of graphics processors this year reached 14 million in this quarter, which is a sharp decrease from 24 million last year, and this shows a drop of 41.6%. The numbers are also disappointing given that the third quarter was mostly the strongest sales in years.

However, during these three months, Nvidia managed to increase its share of the dedicated and discrete graphics card market to 88%, followed by AMD with 8% and Intel with 4%. Intel’s share is up 2% year-over-year at best. In the past two years, the graphics processor market has witnessed significant enthusiasm and sales due to homestays and cryptocurrency mining, but now consumer behavior has changed and we are witnessing a very sharp drop in sales in this sector.

While Nvidia launched two high-end products of its new generation, RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, these products are aimed at professional gamers with their minimum price of 1200 dollars.

However, according to reports, Nvidia has so far shipped close to 150,000 new generation RTX 40 GPUs. The company is also trying to drastically reduce the inventory of the older RTX 30 products, and since we are months away from the mid-range RTX 40 series products, it has tried to do this with the new RTX 3060 and 3070 cards.
