Phison E26 next-generation SSD controller released at CES

It looks like it was recently on display CES This year at the Phison booth, which is actually the most popular manufacturer of SSD controllers, more details about the new generation E26 controller have been published, and Phison started this controller with PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSDs, which is the initial reputation of these products. In the near future, the controller is going to be available again in PCIe Gen 5 products and it is likely that it will be able to repeat its previous success.

In this regard, at CES, Phison has made a reference design SSD with E26 controller support available for demonstration, and has provided more details in this regard. However, the memory drive itself could not be examined independently at the exhibition and the shared products are a standard M.2-2280 drive with support for the PCI-Express 5.0 x4 interface and the Phison E26 controller, along with the DDR4 RAM chip and Micron’s own 3D NAND flash memory chips have been installed.

The Phison E26 controller with model number PS5026-E26 is an NVMe 2.0 client SSD controller. The part is built on TSMC’s 12nm FinFET nodes and has an integrated DRAM controller with support for a variety of DDR4 and LPDDR4 memories for use as DRAM cache.

Phison E26 controller details

Its main flash interface is 8 channels with 32 active NAND lines, TLC and QLC NAND flash support, dual CPU architecture and hardware accelerator support for AES-256, TCG-Opal and Pyrite. This controller uses 5th generation LPDC ECC error correction and internal RAID engines.

For 2TB drives supporting this controller, Phison claims sequential read speeds of over 13.5GB/s and 12GB/s for writes. 4K random access performance is also rated at up to 1.5 million read IOPS (input and output operations per second) and 2 million write IOPS.
