RTX 4080 GPU on Geekbench – 30-38% faster than RTX 3080

There are only 9 days left until the official release of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card, and the reviewers should have received this graphics card by now and are busy reviewing it – because recently new results of the performance of this graphics card have been released. On the Geekbench database It’s been published. When a new graphics card is in the hands of reviewers before the release, its benchmarks are also published little by little.

RTX 4080 performance on Geekbench

According to a new entry seen on the Geekbench database, the GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card has been tested with three different interfaces, Vulkan, OpenCL, and CUDA. This new entry provides us with an opportunity to compare the performance of this graphics card alongside graphics cards such as the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 Ti.

Let us first discuss the specifications of the test system. This graphics card was tested on a high-end system based on an ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E motherboard and using an AMD Ryzen 7 7950X processor – a favorable combination for most hardware reviewers. The graphics card specs are what we’d expect, 76 stream processors equivalent to 9728 CUDA cores along with 16GB of memory. It should have been clear by now that this graphics card is the real RTX 4080 and not the canceled 12GB version.

Okay, on to the points. The RTX 4080 graphics card was able to score 248,000, 300,000, and 148,000 in the OpenCL, CUDA, and Vulkan tests of the Geekbench benchmark, respectively.

Comparing the official results, the RTX 4080 graphics card is 45.7, 37.1 and 29.9% faster than the RTX 3080 graphics card in the CUDA, OpenCL and Vulkan tests, respectively. In addition, this graphics card performs between 5.4 and 15.5 percent better than Ampere’s flagship RTX 3090 Ti graphics card.

It is clear and obvious that a computing benchmark like Geekbench is not a good measure for measuring the gaming performance of graphics cards. Geekbench is a very short and very light test, and during its execution, even the fans of the graphics card are not activated. So keep this in mind when comparing the results.
