Recently, the Notebookcheck website has published the first review of a laptop equipped with the flagship 7045HX Dragon Range processor, i.e. the Ryzen 9 7945HX processor. The performance of this processor has compared with other competitors.

The laptop provided to Notebookcheck is a new generation ROG Zephyrus Duo laptop device from Asus, which is equipped with a 16-core Ryzen 9 7945HX Zen 4 processor. If we want to summarize the results of the test and comparison, this processor performs as well as the Core i9 13980HX processor in both single-core and multi-core tests, and is placed above or below it with a 5% difference; In some tests this processor works better and in some tests that processor works better.

It’s worth noting that the AMD processor test platform, the ROG Zephyrus Duo laptop, has DDR4-4800 memory, while the Intel processor test platform, the MSI TITAN GT77 HX 13VI laptop, uses faster DDR5-5600 memory.

The Ryzen 9 7945HX processor is a 16-core, 32-thread processor, and all of its cores are Zen 4 “big” cores; But the Core i9 13980HX processor is a 24-core processor with a hybrid architecture, and its cores are a combination of Core and Atom cores. With this in mind, it is not so strange that the red team’s flagship processor is ahead in multi-core tests despite having fewer cores.

Optimum energy consumption of Zen architecture 4

But the important point in this comparison is that the R9 7945HX processor consumes less energy than the i9 13980HX processor. The maximum power consumption of the 7945HX processor in the tests reached 120 watts, while the 13980HX processor consumes up to 150 watts of power. More interestingly, if the power consumption of both processors is manually limited to 120 watts, the Ryzen 9 7945HX outperforms its competitor by about 22%. In fact, the Zen 4 architecture is more optimized than the Raptor Cove/Gracemont hybrid architecture.
