Samsung dominates the smartphone market in the first quarter of 2021

In the list for the first quarter of 2021, Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo are ranked first to fifth, respectively, with the Koreans leading the market with a 23% share.

Apple had a 17% market share during this period and Xiaomi had a 15% share. Oppo and Vivo also had an 11% market share.

Samsung sold 77 million smartphones in the first quarter of 2021, which means 19 million more devices than in the first quarter of 2020. Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo sold 57, 49, 38 and 37 million handsets, respectively.

In terms of annual growth, Vivo topped the list with 85% sales growth, followed by Xiaomi with 80% growth. Sales of Oppo and Apple grew by 68% and 44%, respectively, and Samsung experienced the lowest growth of 32%.

Overall, manufacturers have been able to sell 340 million handsets in this period, which shows a growth of 24% compared to the first quarter of 2020. The number of handsets sold at that time was 275 million. This growth is the highest since 2015.

The reason for such growth is the Chinese companies Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo. On the other hand, Huawei is not doing well in the mobile market due to extensive US sanctions, and its sales have dropped significantly.

We have to wait and see how the table changes by the end of the year. Maybe Xiaomi can replace Apple by the end of 2021 or Huawei can once again be among the top 5 manufacturers in the world.
