Samsung has recently introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 clamshell phones. However, a new patent from the South Korean tech giant shows that the company is apparently working on developing another version of the Galaxy Z Fold that will have a rolling screen.
Samsung has released a new patent for a clamshell phone Has registered Which uses a rolling screen, meaning the screen can be pulled out. There are also various designs of this concept phone that show how it works. In the pictures provided, we see a phone similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which has an internal folding design with a large main panel. However, LetsGoDigital refers to this device as the Galaxy Z Fold & Roll because it has a rolling screen.
Although its overall design is similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, its rollable display sets it apart from other clamshell phones on the market. Samsung has registered two versions of this device, which rolls the screen in the first model and expands when the device is folded from the right. In the second model, the screen expands when folded from the left.
Simply put, this device does not have an external display unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 3, however its widescreen display can perform the same function for users.
Although the main function of this small display and Samsung’s purpose are not exactly clear, it is likely that the Korean tech giant will offer it as a simple way to check notifications and other key information such as time without having to fully open the phone. Of course, keep in mind that all of the cases in this report are related to one of Samsung’s patents. So to confirm such a device, we have to wait for the official news from Samsung.
