The number of premium Telegram subscribers crossed the 1 million mark

Only a few months after Telegram Premium subscription service started to operate. Number of paid subscribers This popular messenger crossed the border of one million people. Premium subscription service is the first serious attempt of this platform to earn money directly from its users.

Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of Telegram, shared this news on his personal channel on Tuesday. Durov announced that with subscription users crossing the border of one million people, this plan is considered one of the most successful examples of launching a subscription service in the history of social networks.

However, the subscription service is only a small part of Telegram’s overall revenue. Pavel Durov says that he hopes that in the not-too-distant future the premium service will also make money in the form of advertising. Telegram, which has more than 700 million monthly active users, launched a subscription service at the end of June this year.

Telegram premium service

This service offers a wide range of exclusive features. Premium subscribers will receive double the limits applied to regular users. They can join 1000 channels while this number is limited to 1000 subscribers. In other cases, less restrictions are applied to them. For example, subscribers can create 20 chat folders with 200 chats, save up to 10 stickers and pin up to 10 chats. In addition, the premium service allows users to add a total of four accounts to Telegram instead of three.

Other perks of this service include access to a library of premium stickers with full-screen animations, exclusive emoji reactions, and animated profile pictures. Also, if you don’t have headphones available, it is also possible to convert voice messages to text. Premium Telegram subscribers can send files up to 4 GB and have access to faster download speeds. The subscription fee of this service is 5 dollars per month in America and 2.2 dollars in emerging markets like India.

Telegram’s effort to make money becomes serious when its main competitor, WhatsApp, is also trying to find ways to make money. WhatsApp is currently free and has no paid services, but its parent company Meta is increasingly encouraging more businesses to use the messenger. The meta seems to have been on a roll in recent months, and not everyone is happy about it.

Telegram, which is headquartered in Dubai, has previously stated that it needs to make money to support the platform, citing computing costs. The platform plans to expand its monetization efforts in the coming year and adopt newer methods as well. Durov said late last month that the company is also developing new decentralized tools such as wallets and exchanges.

Pavel Durov added:

Thanks to successful monetization, Telegram will be able to pay for servers, traffic, salaries for developing new features and supporting existing facilities. While some programs view their users as a means to maximize revenue, we view revenue as a means to maximize opportunities for our users.
